Meet WAHM Courtney Price of Glamour Avenue Parties

Courtney Price is the owner and creator of Glamour Avenue Parties (based in Houston, TX) – and she’s a mom to 3 year old little Aidan! Her business provides children’s party decor and she also does mobile spa parties for girls (how fun!?). Courtney shares how she is able to run a successful business and be home as much as possible with her little boy. I love how her business also allows her to spend time with children and make them feel special and pampered with a spa party!

Did you always plan to be a WAHM? If not, what made you decide to work from home?
I didn’t know what capacity in which I wanted to be a WAHM, I just knew I wanted to try my luck in the business and see where the path lead.

How long have you been a WAHM?
I have been a WAHM for the last 5 years.

How many children do you have and what are their ages?
I have 1 son, Aidan, and he is 3 years old.

What is your workstation setup like? (ie. In the kitchen, room to room, in an office/study, etc.)
My workstation is setup in my bedroom and I have a desk and office space setup in the sitting area of my room.  Just a few short weeks ago, I did not have a designated spa and everything seemed so scattered and unorganized. In an effort to de clutter and set “real office hours” I thought it would be a great idea to purchase a desk and create a work space.

What days/hours do you typically work?
I honestly feel like I work 24/7 and that is something that I am working on, creating set hours and sticking to them. This is a challenge for me as I want to make sure I respond to inquiries within a timely manner, but I don’t want the business to consume me. I don’t want to look back on this time I spend as a WAHM and mother to my son and regret not spending more time with him because I am glued to the computer or my cell phone.

Do you have a nanny/mother’s helper while you work?
I don’t have a nanny/ or mother’s help that often and this is a task to provide my son the attention he needs as well as keeping up with work. On the rare occasion that I do have a time to focus solely on work, I try to cram as much work in as I can!

What are some of your frustrations with being a WAHM?
My frustrations for being a WAHM is juggling both work and care for my 3 year old.

What is the single most gratifying part of being a WAHM?
The single most gratifying thing of being a WAHM is knowing that I am following my dream of being a small business owner in the area of event planning and enjoying what I do. I would never want to regret not at least trying to follow my dream. I always told myself, if I failed as a business owner, at least I tried.

Describe a typical day in the life for you as a WAHM.
My typical day starts with waking up about an hour or so earlier than my son to catch up on emails, browse social media, and work on some of the DIY projects, event planning requires. I work throughout the day and take small brakes to play with my son, eat, and things like that.

What food/toys/technology/etc. could you not live without as a WAHM?
As a WAHM I could not live without my computer, printer, cell phone and crafting tools. All of these items play a distinct role in keeping me on top of my business as well as executing ideas and thoughts.

How do you think being a WAHM has helped you and your family?
I think although with its struggles at times, being a WAHM has helped my family tremendously because my son has dealt with developmental delays as well as symptoms identified on the Autism Spectrum. I feel being at home with him has helped with his learning and the day to day interaction and support he needs to work through his symptoms. I know for sure, had I still worked a corporate job, away from home clocking 50+ hours a week, he would not be able to get the support system he has right now.

What advice would you give to a mother working outside the home who wants to transition to being a WAHM?
My advice for another mom who wants to make the transition to a WAHM is to begin slowly and small and gradually grow your business. I would say start on weekends, and really get a feel for the market you want to work for and see if you can bring something fresh to the table. I also want to mention, being a WAHM is most certainly a juggling act, but it can be done with hard work and perseverance.

What sounds do you like to hear the most while working?
The sounds I hear the most as a WAHM are the sounds of my son playing and his cartoons in the background.

Is there anything else you want to share about life as a WAHM?
The only additional things I would like to add to anyone thinking of pursuing work as a WAHM is to put yourself out there and take a shot at your dream.  We have one life and I encourage everyone to live it without regrets and take a chance.
