One of the most important features of any website are the fonts used in the design. Fonts can set the tone for your website and make your business appear more trustworthy, professional, creative, feminine – or whatever the vibe is that you want your website to communicate.
With the Showit website builder, you can install custom fonts to match your branding and enhance your website’s design. I’m going to walk you through the exact steps to adding a custom font to your Showit website, it’s really easy!
Choosing a Font in Showit Design Settings
In the Design Settings pop up window in Showit, you’ll see a tab for Fonts. Here is where you will choose the fonts you wish to use for your website. Most likely, if you’ve installed a Showit website template you’ve purchased, the fonts have already been predetermined. You can still alter the font settings for your website to match your preferences.
How to Install A Font In Showit
If you’ve already explored the free Google fonts offered in Showit and you want to add your own font, you can easily do that in the Custom Fonts section of the Design Settings (in the Fonts tab seen above).
1. Convert Your Font File to a WOFF Format
Your font file will need to be in the format of a WOFF file, which is usually the web file format that’s provided by font creators. But, if your font isn’t in the proper format, Showit suggests you can convert your font file into the WOFF format for upload by going to Font Squirrel. I’ve used this site myself and it works great!
If your font file is already in a WOFF format, you can skip this step!
2. Upload The Font To Your Media Library
In order to add the font to your active fonts list, you’ll need to upload the correct font file to your Media Library in Showit. I like to create a folder labeled ‘Fonts’ so that all of my font file are in one place (and are never accidentally deleted!).
3. Activate The Font In The Design Settings
After you’ve upload the WOFF font file to your Media Library, open up the Design Settings and go to Custom Fonts. Click the dropdown and you should see the name of your new font. Select the font and give it a name. Be sure to check the box that you own a license to the font and then click the Add Custom Font button and you’ll see the font now appear in the right column which are your active website fonts.
Now just remember to click save and you should see your new font appear in the dropdown for font options in the website builder.
Why Isn’t My New Font Showing Up?
If you’re having trouble getting your custom font to work, here are some possible causes:
The font file you uploaded is NOT a WOFF format (it should end with .WOFF) Simply changing the name of the file will not work, you’ll need to convert the font using Font Squirrel.
You did not upload the font file to your Media Library If you already uploaded the font file, try deleting it and uploading again.
You did not click ‘Save’ after added the font to the Custom Fonts section in the Design Settings Make sure you click the blue save button after you add the font!
Conclusion
Adding a custom font to your Showit website is easy to do in just a couple of steps. Make sure you follow each step mentioned in this post and you should be able to use any font you want in your website design.
