Showit is a powerful website builder that allows users to create modern designs using a drag and drop interface. There are also amazing tools for displaying photos such as parallax scrolling effects, multi-image galleries, background images, image frame shapes, and image animation effects.
While all of these enhanced design tools can make your website look incredibly polished and professional, it’s essential that you follow SEO best-practices for your images.
By now you probably know that SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This means there are guidelines for how your website should be setup in order for it to rank high on Google.
Did you know your images can help your SEO? Many people use the Google image search tool so you don’t want to miss out on showing up there. I’m going to walk you through all the steps you’ll need to take in order to boost your SEO using images from your website.
How to Improve SEO with Images
There are a few important rules you’ll need to follow in order to increase your chances of being found in Google images using your Showit website.
Images that take more than a fraction of a second to load can slow down your website and hurt your SEO. Be sure to compress all of your images in your Media Gallery before uploading.
Use Batch Compress to reduce the file size of your images without affecting the quality.
2. Rename Your Image Files Using SEO-Friendly Words
The name of your image file can affect your SEO, so this is your best chance to have your image rank high in Google. A file name with random letters and numbers means nothing to Google (ex. 1234Emma.jpg) and most likely will never show up in a Google image search result.
But, a file name with very descriptive words will increase your SEO. It does take some additional time to rename your files, especially if you have a lot of images.
3. Add Titles and Alt Text to Images in Showit
Within Showit you can improve your SEO by writing titles and keyword-rich alt text for all images.
Select the image within your Showit page and over in the right column expand the ‘Image’ module.
First, write a title to describe your image. This is considered less important for SEO and should just be a short and simple label.
Next, write a SEO-friendly alt text description for your image. Be sure to include keywords that someone may search in order to find a website like yours.
The Alt Text box is important for SEO since Google will crawl your website and use the alt text description to help determine how your site should rank in searches. Try to avoid repetitive phrases and words, or sentences that really don’t relate to the photo.
