The idea of adding a blog to your business website can make some people cringe. You might feel like your writing skills aren’t good enough or that you’ll run out of ideas to write about. I’m sharing 7 reasons your business website needs to have a blog. By the end of this post, if you don’t have a blog already, you’ll be convinced that your business needs one.
1. SEO Value
Blogs add SEO (Search Engine Optimization) value to your website for a number of reasons. Mainly by adding content to your site, there’s a higher chance someone will find your business website through a blog post. Using titles for your blog posts that have high SEO value, adding keywords and phrases throughout your blog post and labeling images in your blog post so that Google images can find your site are just a few ways blog posts can add SEO value to your website.
2. Get Found on Pinterest
Pinterest has become an incredibly popular search engine and it’s such a valuable tool for bloggers. For every blog post on your site, you should create a pinnable graphic (like this one) and upload it to Pinterest. Now your blog post can be found on Pinterest and pinned over and over again to other people’s boards. 95% of my website traffic comes from Pinterest!
3. Show Off Your Knowledge
Sharing tidbits of information you may already know but your audience doesn’t, is a great reason to add a blog to your website. If you find yourself often answering the same questions again and again with your audience, or you know about a problem your audience might be facing that you can help solve, turn that into a blog post!
4. Make Your Business Appear Active
A blog on your website shows that your business is active and up to date. A website that has a stale blog, meaning your most recent blog posts are from last Christmas, says that your business has stalled and you’re not keeping up with it. Google favors websites that are frequently updated which is even more motivation to have an active blog!
5. Sell Your Services
You can use a blog to help sell your products or services in roundabout ways. If you have a business where you offer VA services or design services, write blog posts that help offer solutions to potential clients who may one day need your services. If they like your blog, they’ll remember it and come back to hire you.
6. Connect with Your Audience
Back in the day, blogs used to be diary-style entries where you would talk about what you’ve been up to, share your your future plans, thoughts, ideas and inspiration. Blogs have evolved since then, but you can still use your blog to connect with your audience! Try honing in on a topic for your personal blog post and make it relatable to your audience. So instead of “What I’ve Been Up To This Summer”, a post titled “5 Ways I Made This Summer with My Kids the Best One Ever!”
7. Create a Resource Guide for Common Questions
One of the best ways to utilize your blog is to treat it like a resource guide for your audience. Think about the questions you get asked the most, or what advice you are giving repeatedly. Having a blog post at your fingertips that you can send out to a client or a fellow business owner is such a time saver and it makes you look incredibly professional!
