Having an ecommerce shop can be a great way to make money online. But if your sales have been lackluster and you’re not sure why, take a look at the following reasons why you may be missing out on having more sales.
1. Customer Reviews
Shoppers like to feel assured they’re making the right choice and hearing from other shoppers is a great way to seal the deal on a potential sale. Studies have shown that sharing customer reviews and testimonials is what makes a shopper go from being on the fence to clicking that Place Order button.
If you don’t already have a Customer Reviews section on your website, and more specifically on each product page, make this your number one priority!
Not sure how to get reviews? Reach out to past customers and ask for their feedback on their recent purchase. You’ll find that most people are more than willing to give their opinion on your product – all you have to do is ask.
2. Checkout Experience
If your checkout experience isn’t user-friendly, your shop most likely will have low conversions. If your customer has to go through too many obstacles or a confusing checkout experience they’ll most likely abandon their cart and the sale will be lost.
Make sure your checkout experience is fast and effortless by testing out your own store checkout to see what the experience is like.
These are the most common reasons shoppers abandon their carts at checkout:
Unexpected cart total, shipping costs, etc.
Too many clicks or steps
Requiring a login
Can’t find the checkout button

With online sales, presentation and photography is everything. In order to attract attention and make customer’s feel that they are buying something valuable, your product presentation must be impressive.
Showing too few images can have a negative impact with shoppers. The more you show, the more confident customers will feel in buying your product.

4. Compelling Sales Page
A sales page is an incredibly vital tool in digital ecommerce. If your product detail page isn’t telling people how your product is going to change their life, then it’s not doing it’s job.
A high-converting sales page not only looks attractive and reflects the quality of your product, but it curbs any doubt your customer may have in buying your product.
Your sales page may include some of the following sections to help convert the sale:
According to industry leaders, most customers don’t purchase a product when they see it. They may view the product several more times before going through with the purchase. But what if they forget and never return to your site again?
Collecting your potential customer’s email address is crucial if you want to convert them into a paying customer.
There are two methods you’ll want to add to your store in order to collect information before a customer leaves your site:
Coupon Offer or Free Download Enticing a customer with either a coupon code or a freebie, is a great way to get their email address so you can contact them in the future about sales, offer and new products.
Abandoned Cart Email Once a customer begins the checkout process and enters their email address, you can then trigger an email to go out if they wind up not completing the sale.
Building your email list is vital to increasing your online sales. You’ll want a quick and effective way to reach your customers outside of social media.
Conclusion
If you notice your shop isn’t performing well, try all of the tips mentioned above to help increase your conversions. Maintaining an online store is a never ending task as there are always enhancements to be made.
Don’t be afraid to try something new with your online store. The most subtle change might make for a BIG difference in sales.
