Once you have your site ready to launch, it’s time to point your DNS from Squarespace to Showit. This is one of the final steps in moving from Squarespace to Showit – so make sure you are ok with no longer have access to your old Squarespace site. Adios Squarespace!
To find out how to change your DNS, you’ll first want to go to your account page in Showit and then click Your DNS Records ➡. Scroll down a bit on this page and you’ll see the DNS information that you’ll need to update in Squarespace.
Click the domain name. If you have multiple Squarespace domains, you’ll manage their DNS records separately.
Click DNS Settings.
Once you finish entering the updated DNS records, it should take about 24-48 hours for your domain to fully change where it points to.
5. Test and Launch Your Site
After you’ve successfully updated your DNS settings, your Showit website will soon be available for everyone to see! If your site isn’t ready to launch on Showit, you can add a Coming Soon page in place of your homepage, similar to this one >> Coming Soon page example
You can preview your website in Showit by clicking the preview button, next to the publish button. This will publish your site to a staging site, which only you can access.
Once you’re ready to publish your website to be live, click the blue publish button and don’t forget to remove your Coming Soon page if you’ve added one. Hooray, you’ve just launched your new Showit website!
Why should I consider moving from Squarespace to Showit?
If you’re struggling to achieve the look you want for your website and Squarespace has become too limiting – you’ll absolutely love Showit! The drag and drop interface is what has creatives and professional designers flocking to Showit as their website builder.
I personally love that Showit uses WordPress as the blogging platform, whereas Squarespace, Wix and Shopify do not utilize WordPress.
Will I lose my website design if I move websites?
Yes, if you cancel your Squarespace account, you will lose your website design. That’s why I recommend utilizing the Showit 14 day free trial to setup your new website while your current website is still up and running.
Will I lose SEO if I move my website?
It’s hard to say for sure, but if you take a few additional steps you can maintain the SEO you have already established with your Squarespace website.
Yes, you can still keep your domain with Squarespace while hosting your website with Showit. Since Showit does not offer domain name registration, you can either continue to renew your domain name with Squarespace or any other name registrar like Google Domains or GoDaddy.
Can I hire someone to help me setup my Showit website?
Absolutely! I’ve been a Showit Design Partner since 2020 which means I’ve been certified by Showit and follow all of their design standards. You can hire me to setup your new Showit website with the Showit Design Week Experience. Together we’ll create and launch your dream website in just 7 days.
