If you’re reading this and you’re a business owner, you NEED a brand board.
You’ve probably heard of a brand board or maybe you’ve seen them on Pinterest.
What is a brand board?
A brand board is an excellent way of communicating your brand’s personality in a concise and easy to understand way. It’s also a great way to reference your branding at any time so you can make sure you’re staying consistent.
Why do you need a brand board?
Branding is a critical step in growing your business. A memorable brand translates to more clients and more sales (who doesn’t want that?).
If you’re a designer looking to offer brand boards as part of your services, you probably already understand why it’s a necessary part of the branding process. You also want to make sure that your clients utilize your beautiful work the way you intended.
I’ve put together a free guide on how you can easily create a brand board for yourself or a client. This brand board contains all of the basic elements that should be on any brand board.
Primary Logo Your primary logo is the main logo you use for your business. Usually this is the logo that appears on your website and business card.
Submark & Alternate Logo Every brand needs some flexibility with their logo. Submarks use elements from the logo design to create an alternate version of the logo without losing the brand’s identity.
Fonts Your branding should have anywhere from one to three different fonts. Depending on the style of your brand, you may want to have at least one serif font and one sans-serif font.
Patterns & Textures Many brands have a pattern or texture that is a part of their branding. This should be used whenever possible.
Color Palette One of the most important parts of branding is a color palette. To maintain consistent branding, the same color palette should be used all the time. A brand board or a style guide may also provide HEX numbers for each color.
Imagery Inspirational imagery is a great way to define a brand. Using at least two to five images you can visually communicate the personality of a business. Pinterest is a great resource for inspiration (just remember to credit the source whenever possible!).
