At some point or another, you may have thought about branding for your business. Maybe you’ve put it off for a few different reasons, or maybe you don’t really have a good understanding of what branding could actually do for your business.
I’m going to share some of the biggest myths about branding your business.
Myth #1 “Branding isn’t necessary”
This is 100% false. Without branding, your business has no identity and won’t make nearly the impact it could with branding. Think about some of your competitors and business icons. Do they have quality branding? What is it about their brand that sets them apart?
Myth #2 “Branding is only for big companies”
Every business needs branding, especially small businesses. No matter the size of your business (even if it’s just you!) branding is essential. Think about it this way, if you’re a solopreneur you’re handling everything from business finances to marketing. Having solid branding gives you the tools you need to communicate you brand’s message consistently. A big company often has a marketing department who can handle all aspects of their branding. Since you’re doing it all, it’s even more important that your branding is on point.
Myth #3 “Branding won’t really help my business grow”
This is a lie. Branding can change how your business is perceived by creating a consistent and professional look with a strong message. Without quality branding, your business may just be lost in a sea of millions of other online businesses. If you have branding and your business has stalled, it’s time to reevaluate your branding.
Myth #4 “Branding is expensive”
This is a misconception. While branding can cost as much as tens of thousands of dollars, you can certainly hire a professional brand designer for much less. One of the first things you should invest in for your business is branding because it will set the tone for everything that follows it. If you’re shopping for a brand designer, choose someone whose portfolio reflects your style.
Myth #5 “I’m not ready for branding”
The idea of waiting to invest in quality branding after your business grows is backwards. Branding should come before you even begin your business so that it’s off to the right start. If are putting branding off because you don’t know what you want, try to make it a priority to decide and also let the designer help guide you.
