If you have a blog on your Showit website, you may already know it can be an incredibly valuable source of traffic to your website. Sadly, many business owners struggle with how to start and maintain their blog and end up throwing in the towel too quickly.
I’m going to walk you through why your Showit website blog isn’t bringing you traffic, and how to fix it ASAP. As a Showit Design Partner since 2020, I know what it takes to create a blog that not only gets a ton of free site traffic 😮, but adds value to your business by booking new clients and selling your products.
Here’s why your Showit website blog isn’t working:
1. You haven’t actually set up your blog properly
One of the most common reasons Showit users struggle with getting their blog started, is because they have no idea where to start. The good news: Showit uses WordPress for the blog which is the world’s best free blogging platform. The bad news: Setting up and using your blog with Showit can be a little bit cumbersome for some users.
To get started with setting up your blog, first make sure you have a Showit Blog plan (Showit offers three plans, two of them include a blog). In my mini course Showit Blog Starter Kit, I’ll walk you through exactly what you need to do to get your blog up and running, including helpful screenshots and short videos. No tech overwhelm, I pinky promise!
2. You don’t know what to write for your blog (so you don’t post)
This is another key reason business owners ignore their blog and get low traffic. You may be thinking “I have no idea what to write about”, “I’m not a very good writer” or “No one will want to read what I have to say”, every business owner goes through this and it’s totally normal. The truth is you have a lot of information to share and people do want to hear what you have to say.
Gone are the days of diary entry style blog posts. Today’s blog posts offer helpful tips, advice, tutorials, breakdowns, lists and guidance. This is the information people are searching for on Google and ChatGPT and there’s a good chance, if you format your blog post correctly, yours will come up in search results!
If you’re stuck on what to write about for your first blog post, think about it from the perspective of your ideal customer – what information might they find helpful?
You don’t have to cover everything you know in one long blog post. Instead, you can break down posts into shorter, more specific topics.
In my mini course, the Showit Blog Starter Kit, I cover everything you need to get started with a simple checklist, plug-and-play blog post template and a curated list of blog post ideas to get you started. Let’s get your blog setup today →
3. Your posts aren’t structured for search
If your blog posts aren’t formatted properly for search engines, then you’re missing out on reaching a huge audience. The good news: it’s not too late to fix your blog post structure. You can go back to old posts (even if they’ve been published) and make sure all of your headlines are formatted to an H2 title tag.
Having an SEO-friendly blog post title is extremely important for being found in searches. Tools like Headline Analyzer will help guide you with creating the perfect balance of user-friendly and search engine-friendly blog posts titles to help your blog post rank higher.
4. There’s no strategy behind your content
This is a BIG reason why business owner burn out on blogging and give up too soon. Not having a strategy in what you want to blog about will kill your blog.
You want to choose at least 3 topics to blog about, but no more than 10 topics. The topics should all relate to your business and offer helpful information for your ideal customer.
In addition to your blog topics, each blog post should include an internal link and a call to action. The Showit Blog Starter Kit mini course covers everything you need to successfully strategize your blog posts.
The goal of your blog should not only be to offer helpful advice and information, but to make every blog post related to your services or your products in a way that feels authentic to the reader.
Wrapping Things Up
Blogging is still one of the most effective ways to increase site traffic – and most business owners struggle with how to do it right.
In just a short amount of time ✨ your blog may become one of your best sales tools.
